Without a doubt, Bishop Jan Lubrański was a big fan of music. He not only funded the Cathedral’s organ, but also financed its choir, whose members complied with his wishes and sang psalms around the clock (!). The Psaltery was built in the 16th century especially to accommodate them. Twelve psalm singers lived, prayed and ate their meals here in the spirit of brotherhood. The Psaltery bore the coat of arms of its founder (featuring a pine tree) affixed to the building’s façade. It is topped by distinctive recesses shaped like a donkey’s back.
