In the 16th century, the townhouse was owned by the Ridts family. Its members, who engaged in overseas trade in silk, damask and samite, were among Poznañ’s wealthiest burghers. The family business is reflected in the townhouse façade in a portrayal of Zachariah, the head of the family, surrounded by ships and the coats of arms of towns on the Vistula with which he did business, i.e. Kraków, Warsaw and Gdañsk. Shown next to them is the coat of arms of Poznań.
