Bismarck Street was one of the town’s most prestigious addresses. In the 1870s, a complex of luxury townhouses was erected there in the “palace style”. These highly decorative buildings made up a very harmonious residential estate. They included a number of innovative building solutions designed for the comfort of the residents. The buildings’ architecture was reminiscent of chic city developments in Paris and Vienna. The townhouse basements housed one of Poznań’s largest and most popular eating establishments during the late 19th and early 20th centuries: the Bismarck-Tunnel restaurant.
