The Prussian authorities repeatedly attempted to suppress Polish economic initiatives, which they saw as a threat to German interests in the east. To that aim, they promoted such ventures as the Eastern Bank whose magnificent seat was constructed in 1911. This was one of Poznań’s most powerful banking institutions supplying capital to German industry and trade. Its success was made possible by the Prussian authorities and Berlin banks, which extended their support.
