The Royal-Imperial Route is a trail of Poznań’s most fascinating sights. It offers a spectacle starring the city and the forty generations of people who have built it. It enables the viewer to witness the majesty of the millennium-old city of Poznań. It tells the story about “reaching for the crown” and succeeding in the pursuit of one’s plans.

The spectacle presents a parade of successive witnesses to Poznań’s turbulent history: mighty kings and emperors, eccentric aristocrats, influential bishops, inspired artists, visionary mayors, hard-working burghers and craftsmen. We see them all in constant action: they plan, set goals, work, act and alter things. Are our lives any different?

Testimony to the city’s history is also borne by its sights. None of them are in Poznań by accident. Each reflects its own time, each was brought here by a particular cause, each has served a particular purpose, each is proof of the successful efforts of its founders and makers. All have contributed to building contemporary Poznań step by step. Today, we take over the role of the creators of the city space. What will we make? To what end?

In exploring the history of Poznań, one may well be surprised by just how similar we are to people from history. We have the same ambitions, needs and dreams. What has changed is the circumstances in which we act and the tools we use to fulfil our goals. Ponder the past from your own perspective, relating it to your experience – doesn’t this make history easier to comprehend?
